The Graduate Program in Computational Sciences and Mathematical Modeling (PPG-CompMat) is part of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). Currently (2023-2025), it is coordinated by Professor Gilson Alexandre Ostwald Pedro da Costa and Professor Diana Sasaki Nobrega.
The program is classified as CAPES 4 in the INTERDISCIPLINARY field (Câmara III) and is part of the College of Exact, Technological, and Multidisciplinary Sciences.
Its primary goal is to train researchers in developing theories, methods, and computational, statistical, and mathematical techniques aimed at studying natural and artificial phenomena, systems, and processes in a wide range of scientific and engineering fields. The integration of knowledge from different areas and the use of computational methods are essential for solving the problems studied, going beyond the traditional approaches of physics and mathematics. In this field, interdisciplinarity is truly vital for finding efficient and innovative solutions to the addressed problems, which characterizes the field of computational sciences.
